Access to affordable oral healthcare is not always easy for some patients and families. The cost of necessities continues to rise, but the team at Nepean Dental Centre wants to make it easier for individuals to receive top-quality dental care that is less burdensome on the wallet. If you are ready to find a dentist who welcomes the Canadian Dental Care Plan, keep reading to find out what you can expect to receive by enrolling in this federal financial program.

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The CDCP is a federal government program that allows individuals who have an adjusted family net income of $90,000 or less to receive access to affordable oral healthcare. Unlike dental insurance, which often has a lot of red tape, this program allows you to receive preventive and restorative treatment at a significantly lower cost.

What is Required to Qualify?

Not everyone is eligible to enroll in the CDCP. Instead, there are strict guidelines you must follow that include:

  • Being a Canadian resident
  • Having an adjusted family net income of $90,000 or less
  • Having filed last year’s tax return
  • You are not currently enrolled in a dental insurance plan

One caveat is that you may still qualify even if you have some form of dental coverage through a government social program (provincial, territorial, or federal).

What Kind of Services Are Covered?

It may surprise you that the CDCP covers many eligible services. While the primary focus is always to promote prevention, accidents and cavities can still happen even with the best of intentions. This is why you can expect coverage to include:

  • Preventive Services (dental exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride, sealants, scaling and root planing, etc.)
  • Minor Restorative Services (dental fillings, local anesthesia, cavity-based treatment, root canal treatment, periodontal care, etc.)
  • Major Restorative Services (dental crowns and repair, full and partial dentures, tooth extractions, etc.)
  • Sedation Services

The amount that is covered for these services is based on your adjusted net income. If you make less than $70,000, you can expect the CDCP to pay 100%. If your income falls between $70,000 and $79,999, the CDCP will pay 60%, and if your net income is between $80,000 and $89,999, they’ll pay 40%.

If you want to make sure that you and your family’s smiles are taken care of year-round, you will want to take advantage of this financial opportunity through the federal government. Not only will you save money, but you’ll be able to prioritize oral healthcare for you and those you love.
